On Instagram, a person gives a post 1.5–2 seconds on average. That’s it.

Copywriting’s job is to turn those 2 seconds into 20, and those 20 seconds into an order.

What is copywriting?

Copywriting

Writing words that motivate the reader to take a specific action: click, message, save or buy.

Content writing informs. Copywriting gets action. Good copy isn’t fancy; it’s clear.

Hook: the first line is everything

The hook is the first line or first 2 seconds that stop the scroll. 6 tested hook types:

TypeStyleStreet example
Problem“Does your kurti start itching after 8 hours at the office?”
Curiosity“We washed this kurti 10 times. See the result.”
Number“1 kurti, 3 looks, ₹899.”
Relatable“When it’s Monday and there’s nothing to wear…”
Bold claim (true)“Size didn’t fit? The exchange is on us.”
Question“Which kurti length is right for your body type?”

Sell benefits, not features

The customer doesn’t want product details; she wants to know what will change in her life.

FeatureBenefit
100% cottonFeels fresh for 8 hours, even in the heat
PocketsNo bag needed for your phone and ID
Pre-washed fabricNo fear of shrinking in the first wash
Free exchangeZero size risk
What is the “So what?” trick?

After every feature, ask yourself “So what?” until you reach a real benefit. “It’s cotton.” So what? “It breathes.” So what? “You stay comfortable at the office even in summer.” That’s what you write.

The AIDA formula: caption structure

Attention→Interest→Desire→Action
AIDA caption

A: Monday meeting or Friday lunch, one kurti handles both.

I: Jaipur handblock print, 100% pre-washed cotton, side pockets.

D: A favourite of 200+ working women. Free exchange if the size doesn’t fit.

A: ₹899 · Sizes S–XXL · WhatsApp us from the bio link, reply in 10 min.

Another popular formula is PAS: Problem → Agitate (make the pain felt) → Solution.

CTA: tell the customer what to do next

A CTA (Call To Action) should be clear, single and easy.

Weak

“DM.” / “Interested?” / 5 different CTAs at once

Strong

“Comment ‘SIZE’ for the size chart.” / “WhatsApp us from the bio link for price + photos instantly.”

Creative strategy: visuals speak too

  • First 2 seconds: a face or movement, with the hook as a text overlay
  • Real > perfect: daylight, real working women, natural settings
  • Text overlay: big, readable words; understandable even with sound off
  • Clear product: fit, fabric texture close-up, length
  • Brand-consistent: the same colours, fonts and logo position
  • Price visible: less confusion, fewer unqualified DMs
The honesty ruleDon’t change colours with filters. What you show is what arrives; that’s how returns go down and trust goes up.

StyleStreet’s real problem

StyleStreet’s captions said nothing

“New arrival 😍✨ DM for price 💕 #kurti #fashion #ootd”. No hook, no benefit, no price, no clear action.

Result: people scrolled past, or DMed only to ask the price and left. Fix: every caption gets a hook + benefit + proof + price + one CTA.

Practical example: A full Reel script

TimeVisualText / Voice
0–2sPriya checks the clock, 8:45 AM, wardrobe open“Meeting at 9:30, and what do I wear?”
2–6sShe picks up an indigo kurti, transition“This one kurti…”
6–14s3 quick looks: blazer, dupatta, jacket“…3 looks. Office, lunch, evening.”
14–18sFabric close-up, phone in the pocket“Pure cotton. Pockets too.”
18–22sPrice card + logo“₹899 · Free size exchange · WhatsApp link in bio”

Your mission: Copy practice set

Write these for StyleStreet’s “Indigo office kurti”:

  1. 6 hooks in 6 different hook types
  2. Turn 5 features into benefits with “So what?”
  3. One AIDA caption and one PAS caption
  4. 3 strong CTAs
  5. A 20-second Reel script (time, visual, text)
  6. Put the old and new captions side by side and compare
