Episode 22: Meta Ads Manager and campaign structure
Setting up Meta Ads Manager, and the 3 levels of every campaign: campaign, ad set and ad.
The first time you open Ads Manager, it feels like an aeroplane cockpit: buttons everywhere.
But the whole system is just 3 boxes: Campaign, Ad set, Ad. Understand these, and the cockpit becomes easy.
Setup before you start
- Meta Business portfolio (formerly Business Manager): the business’s control centre
- Connect the Facebook Page + Instagram account
- Ad account: currency INR, time zone India. Hard to change later
- Payment method: card or UPI (whatever is available)
- Pixel / Dataset: tracking on the website (Chapter 37)
- Connect the WhatsApp Business number for click-to-WhatsApp ads
Campaign → Ad set → Ad
| Level | What gets decided | StyleStreet example |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign | Objective (goal) | Sales / Leads |
| Ad set | Audience, placements, budget, schedule | Jaipur women 24–38, ₹130/day |
| Ad | Creative, copy, CTA, destination | Wash-test Reel + “Send message” |
One campaign can have several ad sets, and each ad set 2–4 ads.
Naming convention: a small habit, a big benefit
After 10 campaigns, names like “New campaign (3) copy” tell you nothing. Fix a format:
[Funnel]_[Objective]_[Audience]_[Creative]_[Date]
Example: TOFU_Sales_Jaipur2438_WashTestReel_Jan
When reading reports, you instantly see what’s running.
Simple structure: fewer campaigns, more data
Creating lots of ad sets on a small budget is a mistake. Every ad set needs data to learn.
- ₹10,000/month = ~₹330/day
- 3 campaigns from this (TOFU, MOFU, BOFU), each with 1–2 ad sets, is enough
- 2–3 creatives in each ad set
Why so few ad sets?
Meta’s system “learns” for each ad set. The more data one ad set gets, the faster it finds the right people. Split the budget 10 ways and none gets enough data.
Meta Ad Library: learn from competitors
We looked at the Ad Library in Chapter 4. Now make it a daily tool:
- Competitors’ ads that have been running for months are probably profitable
- Note their hooks, offers and formats
- Don’t copy; understand the pattern
StyleStreet’s real problem
23 campaigns, none of them make sense
A freelancer had run StyleStreet’s ad account before. Neha found:
- 23 campaigns, with names like “Post boost 12/3”
- ₹50–100/day in each
- None ever came out of “learning”
- The Pixel wasn’t installed on the website at all
The money was scattered in small pieces, and no data was built anywhere.
Practical example: StyleStreet’s clean account structure
| Campaign | Ad set | Ads | Budget/day |
|---|---|---|---|
| TOFU_Sales_Jan | Jaipur+50km_W2438_Broad | WashTest Reel, POV Reel | ₹130 |
| MOFU_Engage_Jan | VideoViewers50_30d | Reviews carousel, SizeGuide Reel | ₹100 |
| BOFU_Sales_Jan | WA_Chat_NoOrder_14d | COD + Exchange ad, Bestseller carousel | ₹100 |
Total ~₹330/day ≈ ₹10,000/month. Three boxes, clean names, complete data.
Your mission: Ads Manager setup checklist
For a demo or real business:
- Write the setup checklist for the Meta Business portfolio, Page, Instagram and ad account
- Decide 2FA and admin roles (who is admin, who is advertiser)
- Write your naming convention format
- Build a structure table for StyleStreet’s 3 campaigns
- Calculate the daily budget (monthly ÷ 30)
- Look at 3 competitor ads in the Ad Library and note their hooks/offers

Golden rule: Ads Manager looks like a cockpit, but it’s just 3 boxes: Why (campaign), Who (ad set), What (ad). Few boxes, clean names.
