Episode 44: Marketing strategy and growth experiments
A one-page marketing strategy, a North Star metric, growth loops, and prioritising experiments with ICE scoring.
Now StyleStreet has Instagram, ads, a website, SEO, WhatsApp, partners and B2B. Neha asks: “What do I do first? Everything feels important.”
Strategy means deciding “what not to do”. Everything at once = nothing done well.
A one-page marketing strategy
| Section | StyleStreet (next 6 months) |
|---|---|
| Goal | 60 → 120 orders/month, profitably |
| Audience | Priya (primary), corporate HR (secondary) |
| Positioning | Office-ready Jaipur cotton, reliable fit |
| Main channels | Instagram + Meta ads + WhatsApp CRM + SEO |
| Big bets (3) | Repeat rate 45%, Jodhpur/Udaipur expansion, B2B gifting |
| Budget | ₹15k → ₹25k (as long as CAC stays < ₹300) |
| Not doing | Marketplaces, YouTube long-form, menswear |
The North Star metric
One number that best reflects both the value the customer gets and business growth. The whole team’s focus.
For StyleStreet: “Monthly repeat-or-referred orders”, because it shows the customer is happy (came back or brought a friend), and these are the most profitable orders.
Followers or reach can’t be the North Star; they don’t show value.
Beyond the funnel: growth loops
A funnel is a straight line. A loop feeds itself:
Content loop: customer photos → UGC Reels → new customers → more photos. Build loops, and every new customer brings the next one.
ICE scoring: which experiment first
Score every idea 1–10:
- Impact: how big a difference will it make?
- Confidence: how sure are you it will work (data/past results)?
- Ease: how easy/cheap is it?
ICE = I × C × E (or the average). The highest go first.
Growth meeting cadence
- Weekly (30 min): North Star + 5 KPIs, status of running experiments
- Monthly: experiment results, pick the next 3 experiments by ICE
- Quarterly: review the 1-page strategy, keep or change the big bets
Every experiment goes into the Chapter 40 log.
StyleStreet’s real problem
10 ideas, 10 half-finished jobs
In one month Neha started Pinterest, a YouTube channel, an Amazon listing, a men’s kurta test, a new logo, 3 influencers, a podcast idea… All half-done, none with a result.
Practical example: StyleStreet experiment backlog (ICE)
| Idea | I | C | E | ICE (I×C×E) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Referral code in every parcel | 8 | 8 | 9 | 576 |
| Jodhpur Meta ads (winning creative) | 8 | 7 | 8 | 448 |
| Size camps in offices (B2B) | 7 | 6 | 5 | 210 |
| Amazon listing | 6 | 4 | 4 | 96 |
| YouTube long-form | 5 | 3 | 2 | 30 |
This month: the top 2. The rest stay in the backlog, not cancelled.
Your mission: Build a growth strategy
For StyleStreet (or any business):
- Fill the 1-page strategy table (goal, audience, positioning, channels, big bets, budget, not doing)
- Choose a North Star metric and explain why
- Draw a growth loop
- Write 10 experiment ideas
- ICE-score them and pick the top 3
- Write the agenda for weekly/monthly/quarterly reviews

Output for the client project
Your project file now has a Growth Strategy:
- 1-page, 6-month strategy
- North Star: repeat-or-referred orders
- Referral + UGC growth loops
- ICE-scored experiment backlog
- Review cadence
Golden rule: Strategy is more “what not to do” than “what to do”. One North Star, a few loops, and experiments chosen by score, not mood.
