Someone in Jaipur types: “kurti shop near me”. Google Maps shows 3 shops.

Who chose those 3 shops? Google. And how you get into that list is Local SEO.

What is Local SEO?

Local SEO

Getting your business to show up in location-based searches (“near me”, “in Jaipur”) and on Google Maps.

StyleStreet sells online, but it also has a small studio/pickup point in Jaipur where people can come and try. That’s very useful for local customers.

Google looks at local ranking through three things: relevance (do you sell that), distance (how close) and prominence (how well known, reviews).

Setting up a Google Business Profile

  1. Create a profile at business.google.com
  2. Category: the right primary category (e.g. “Women's clothing store”)
  3. Address (or service area if there’s no store), phone, website, hours
  4. Verification (the way Google tells you)
  5. Photos: studio, products, team. Real, good light
  6. Bestsellers + prices in the Products section

NAP consistency

Name, Address and Phone should be exactly the same everywhere: website, Google profile, Instagram, Justdial, Facebook.

WhereWrong
WebsiteStyleStreet, C-Scheme, Jaipur
InstagramStyle Street Kurtis, Jaipur
JustdialAn old phone number

Inconsistent information lowers Google’s trust and confuses customers.

Reviews: the engine of local SEO

  • Ask every happy customer for a review: a direct review link in WhatsApp after delivery
  • Reply to every review, good or bad
  • Never fake reviews. It’s against Google’s policy and hurts the profile if caught
  • It’s even better if customers naturally mention keywords (“the cotton office kurti is so comfortable”), but don’t script them

Posts, updates and questions

  • Updates/posts: new collection, offers, events. Once a week
  • Q&A (where available): add common questions yourself and answer them
  • Insights: how many people called, asked for directions or visited the website

StyleStreet’s real problem

There’s a studio, but it’s not on Google

StyleStreet had a small try-on studio in C-Scheme. But:

  • There was no Google Business Profile
  • An old customer had dropped a wrong pin on Maps
  • Justdial had an old number

Priya in Jaipur would search “cotton kurti store near me”, and StyleStreet was nowhere.

Practical example: A 3-month GBP plan

MonthWorkTarget
1Profile setup, verification, 20 photos, productsProfile live
2Review system (WhatsApp link), reply to every review, weekly post25 reviews

Your mission: Build a Local SEO kit

For StyleStreet or any local business:

  1. Make a GBP setup checklist (category, hours, photos, products)
  2. Fix the NAP format and list 5 places to update it
  3. Write a WhatsApp message asking for a review
  4. Write a reply to one positive and one negative review
  5. Write ideas for 4 weekly posts
  6. Write 3 GBP metrics to track
